Cameron Moll / Designer, Speaker, Author: HTML5... →
cameronmoll: Last Friday I posted a photo of these magnetic HTML5 elements from part of our homeschool curriculum, and several of you expressed interest in knowing how I made them. It’s pretty simple: magnetic sheets that are compatible with any inkjet printer. I’ve used Avery magnet sheets…

I am (not) All About Social Media
I’m not. I thought the idea was cool, and there are some definite great social media or networking sites out there, but really, it’s a pain in the ass. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I have memberships (some considered to be a bit more exclusive) with so many different social sites that if I were to spend time updating all of them just once a day, it would probably take...

The Designer/Client Triangle
Ideally, every designer, freelancer, creative out there has clients. When you’re starting out finding clients can be challenging, and even harder, can be determining what you’re worth and how to express that to the client. I remember my first clients, I was ready to do things nearly for free just to build up some word of mouth and my portfolio. This is not the best path to follow if...

Beaten by Beats by Dre
Welcome to what is the first entry in my slash write series. Each week I will be posting something and/or write something. Generally things will fall under a few different categories. This one falls under the Live/Write category. A few months ago, my Mom was kind enough to give me some money to buy myself something nice. There was a limit to the money, and if what I wanted went over, I had to pay...

New Projects
I know it’s been a long time since I’ve updated this poor site/blog. It’s mainly due to having been really busy as the reporter/editor/photographer/layout designer and everything under the Sun for the paper that I work(ed) for. I designed this site for a small local folk festival (Come by the Hills Folk Festival) over the past couple of weeks. I’ve also designed their...

Sketchy Letters: Stay Gold →
sketchy-letters: So Courtney Weiner @spunkdesign, a friend of mine and local designer asked if I had ever considered showing the process of making a sketchy letter. I am considering doing a video much like those found on Sketch Theatre (but first I need to figure out how to mount the camera above me). I…

Contest Winner Announced!
The official winner of the Support the Arts & Look Good Contest is: Jared Thompson owner of DesignJuices. Jared has been supporting this contest from the get go, and is a great guy. If you haven’t checked out his site, I highly recommend that you do. Though he’s based out of the UK, his favourite team is actually the Vancouver Canucks, so I guess it’s almost fitting that he...

Support the Arts, Win Stuff & Look Great
This contest is finished. So, this is the first giveaway I’ve ever done and I think you’ll all find the prize to be pretty decent. I’m a big supporter of the arts, and especially those people that are trying to document something that is normally overlooked. This is why as my first ‘action’ of the year I decided to donate to the Hip Hop Eh film project. A simple...

When I'm 35
As my birthday passes a mere two weeks after New Year’s I never really feel the need or desire to reflect on the first. I tend to do it around my birthday, as I’m sure most of us do. 34 was a challenging year for me. I spent half of it apart from a woman who is not only my partner, but my best friend. Three months of the six was spent living in a damp, dusty, windowless basement room...

Behind the Curtain
A lot of terms have been used to describe me in the past, and the one that I think stands out as being the most accurate is ‘transparent’. I’ve decided, for a couple of reasons, to pull back the curtain and share a bit of where I’m at right now in my life with you. This isn’t a plea for sympathy or pity, merely a way for you to know me a bit better. My birthday is a...

Web 5.0
I’m all for forward thinking, and marketing, but not when it’s an idiot, his marketing degree, and what he believes to be a money maker. clientsfromhell: Client: ”We want the interface to be edgy and all Web 5.0.” Me: ”Web 5.0 doesn’t exist. Web 2.0 is an accepted standard and 3.0 is still just theoretical discussion at this point.” Client: ”Exactly! If our site is first to market...

Ultimate User Experience
clientsfromhell: Client: Why would anyone have a hard time using a website? It’s all about clicking buttons. Make buttons big red squares, and maybe add some sound to each one of them, so when a user points  a button with the mouse, he would listen a “button voice” yelling “Click me! Click me!”. Now this is what I call a user experience! Me: … Client: Listen boy, I am not supposed to provide...

20+ Websites that Use Monsters Illustrations
antoineguedes: For these who know me or who follow me a bit, you might know I’m a big fan of illustrations, and especially of monsters’ illustrations. So, I decided to start a little trip all over the Web to find if I wasn’t alone to use that kind of illustrations to enhance content. Read More

Temporary Digs
This will be the new temporary digs of rorschach design as I begin the process of a complete overhaul and redesign. I will be relaunching as not only a freelance designer, but also as a design blog. I’ve been with SquareSpace for a number of months now, and have no complaints. I’ve chosen to leave them because they cost me money, and right now since my posts are sporadic at best...
